Royals Women’s welcomed Annie Hack and Brumbies legend Michaela Leonard to their side this week. Both hold a high level of experience and great skill in their position and we are excited to welcome them into the fold. Royals Women came into the game with a lot of confidence from last weeks win. Grace Kemp was first to score today, after breaking through 2 tackle attempts. Niamh Smith showed amazing skills with her pilfering forcing a turn over allowing Ella Boundy to find the try line next. Owls were able to find their feet, placing their first set of points on the board. Halley Derera showed her outstanding speed and was next to score after making an 80 metre run to score Royal’s 3rd try of the day. Royals went into half time in front.
The second half saw us welcome Annie to the field for the first time in Royals colours. Owls came out with a drive to get back, but Royals stuck to their game plan and continued to dig deep. Halley Derrera with with strong tackles, Mac proving why she’s a wallaroo, Annie showing her experience and Kiahan doing what she does best and getting involved in everything. Royals saw Ashley Fernandez, Michaela Leonard and Niki Paterson trying to be backs, making a 40m breakaway before being brought down by strong Owls defence. Royals saw Grace Kemp go over for her second try of the day, Ashlea Bishop, Kristie Mathew’s and Ashley Fernandez also putting points on the board to come away with an outstanding win over Owls.
