Match Report – Men’s 1st Grade Round 12

Thank goodness the game’s played in halves, because the second stanza saw a reversal of fortunes, sparked primarily by Harry Quinlan getting across for a five pointer in the opening stages.

Back in the winner’s circle this week but not without first giving the coaches some cause for concern. The first half was a dour affair with both sides struggling to retain possession, and frustrating the spectators with dropped ball and spoiled opportunities. In effect we didn’t play to the game plan set, we were a little bit desperate (so perhaps trying too hard) and failed to generate momentum. All of which meant we went to the break locked at nil all.

Thank goodness the game’s played in halves, because the second stanza saw a reversal of fortunes, sparked primarily by Harry Quinlan getting across for a five pointer in the opening stages. From here we found our pace and started to control the game. Bryce Keane played a key role throughout, steering the team around the park and demonstrating some brilliant footwork in attack. James Bundy had a strong game scoring two tries, while Ben Johnston and Connal McInerney also chimed in with tries of their own. Pedro, as ever, was consistent in knocking all but one of the opportunities for a shot at goal over the black dot.

Next week will see us playing at Phillip again as we take on the Wests Lions. This year is shaping up well for Royals so it’d be great to have you in the stands supporting us loud and proud. What could be better on a winter day in Canberra.
