Another week closer to the finals and a chance to test ourselves against another potential opponent in Wests. We started with good intent and played with plenty of physicality and discipline at the breakdown that led to a try to Jayden Peckett in his second-grade debut. Sauce converted, nearly bringing the crossbar down to give us a 7-0 lead inside five minutes. This seemed to kick Wests into gear and the had plenty of possession and field position in the next ten minutes that resulted in a converted try to bring the score level after 15 minutes. The game then turned into a stop/start affair that limited our ability to build any momentum. A second to Jayden and a quick response from Wests meant we went into the breakdown 14-12.
We started the second half like the first and off the back of some good phase play and direct running, Charlie crashed over close to the posts, converted by Judd to make it 19-14. When we were allowed to play, the team took advantage of the space and were running hard. A nicely worked counterattack from within our half resulted in a penalty try (to Judd) to give us a 26-14 lead. The subs provided great impact and energy from the bench and a brilliant solo effort from JR at the death made the final score 31-14. Great effort not to concede any points in the second half. Points went to Connor S (3), Sam R (2) and Ethan C/Charlie L (1).
