2nd Grade Match Report
A great start to the season for the boys coming away with a 25-17 victory over the whites in Queanbeyan.
The energy was clearly there from the start, with plenty of energy building before the game, including welcome George for his Royals debut and some inspirational words from Dougal.
The game started with both teams settling into their groove and an even contest until about the fifth minute. A good kick return from the skipper laid the platform for some good attacking phase play and a try to Josh M, converted by Wil 7-0 up. We were hitting our stride and ten minutes later Pearso dived over after a good lineout and resulting driving maul, 12-0. We did take our foot off the peddle slightly and let the Whites in for a try, prior to a penalty from Will to make it 15-5 with ten to go in the half.
The last ten saw us play some side to side footy with a lack of direct attack, a wobbly but effective opportunistic field goal from the skipper made it 18-5 at half time.
The second half didn’t start well with two tries in the first five minutes to the whites, mainly the result of missed one-on-one tackles. This brought them back into the game at 18-17. Sam R straightened things up for us and crashed over for a try (converted by Will) with less than twenty to go to put us up 25-17. Our subs did a good job contributing to close out the game. Thoughts are with Galvo after his injury.
