When all is said and done this weeks effort was an opportunity missed for the Royals first grade side. Taking on Wests at Jamison on a miserable and drizzly day meant bringing energy and a sense of motivation was challenging, but this was an opportunity to consolidate a place at the top end of the table. And we fell short.
There were patches of play that demonstrated our potential, with strong performances from Lincoln Smith, James Bundy and Tom Iles, and solid first grade debuts Leon Bongare and Joey Henry. But we had few opportunities to get on the front foot with Wests slowing the ball at the ruck and Royals struggling to find an appropriate response.
The final score line of 17-22 is frustratingly close and we’ll be keen to turn the result around next round.
