A focus on our Dyls from Calleo

Meet Dylan McLachlan

Dylan is originally from Wagga Wagga where he started his rugby journey. A proud Wiradjuri man, Dylan moved to Canberra late 2021 in an attempt to fulfill his footballing and vocational goals. With the help of Royals Indigenous Opportunity Program, which is funded by the Calleo Indigenous Community Fund, Dylan has been able to achieve much since his arrival in the nation’s capital. He is now considered one of the players to watch in the John I Dent Cup and with Royals, almost capped a perfect first season by reaching the Grand Final. Royals fell at the final hurdle but Dylan sees only the positives in the loss and describes it as character building.

Off the field Dylan is embracing his role as a Cultural Integrity coordinator in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander section of ACT Education Directorate. His passion is ensuring that his kids receive both the support and education they need and deserve.

Dylan has recently had surgery for a recurring injury sustained during the season and is working hard on his rehabilitation. He is fully committed to his goals and is laser focused in his quest: giving himself every chance of being fit for Royals and making a push for the Brumbies Super Rugby Squad in 2023.

The funds that Dylan has received from Calleo have been used to help in his rehabilitation, and to alleviate some of the financial burden that young athletes have to endure to realise their dreams.
