We lost to Wests in round 3 this year, drew with them round 8, and our third match up this season was a real demonstration of the progression the club has made this season, with a three point win 42-39. Wests are a quality side and this result really is a testament to the efforts of the playing group to date. With Wests scoring one more try than Royals, the win this week ultimately came off the back of a significant improvement in our discipline, combined with Pedro Rolando’s boot which contributed 17 points to our total.

Off the back of a very strong showing in preceding weeks, Lincoln Smith again led the charge getting across the try line twice, as did Connor Smith. Jarrah McLeod rounded out the tally with a try of his own out wide. And while the points were flowing throughout the course of the match, there were a number of the Royals forwards toiling hard defensively trying to hold back a bruising Wests pack with notable efforts from Rory Scott, Allan Wratten, Alec Corcoran, Tom Iles and Lotu Uoifalelahi.

We’ve moved into third place on the ladder with a bye round this week and four games left to play. The group are readying themselves for a real test as we look to the finals with places in the top four currently only separated by a few competition points. If we can live up to our potential the finals series should be very exciting for our blue baggers. But the next step towards that goal requires that we face Queanbeyan at Taylor Park on 15 July- it’d be great if we had you there cheering us on from the sidelines.
