9th Round 2023 First grade match report- Royals Vs QBN (Jerome Freestone)

Ed on the charge as Royals dispatch Whites

In round 4 Royals faced up to a Whites side that had all the answers, handing us a thirty point defeat. This week Royals were keen to put that performance well and truly in the past and demonstrate that they’ve learnt the lessons from the past fortnight by taking the win.

A more decisive and disciplined performance was the order of the day with some changes across key positions required in response to injuries. And the team delivered, what wasn’t a perfect game by any measure, but probably the best showing of the season so far. Royals scored seven tries, to Queanbeyan’s one with Liae Tuilagi, Liam Bowron, Ed Kennedy, Alec Corcoran and Joel Penders all getting across the chalk and Angus Staniforth scoring twice.

Stand out performers this week were Liam Bowron who was a rock in defence and took ground with each carry, Liae Tuilagi who put on some massive defensive hits that had the opposition looking for him each time they carried, Ed Kennedy who’s work rate is simply outstanding and Dylan Mclachlan whose coordination and decision making in attack had the team on the front foot more often than not.

We have a bye this week and then head to Penrith to take on the Emus. This break is very welcome, and now that we’ve made our way back into the top four, we’ll be looking to consolidate and advance our standing heading into the finals.
