After another bye, we were into a top of the table clash on a cold & windy day at Tuggeranong. The opening exchanges were intense with both teams trying to get into the game and get some early dominance. Into a strong breeze, we had limited field position. We were made to pay for our willingness to go wide rather than direct with Vikings score two quick tries around the ten-minute mark to go up 12-0. To the boys credit they were straight back in the game with some hard runs and good phase play resulting in a try to Karim, converted by Sauce 12-7. We were reduced to 14 for the last period of the half and Vikings went into the break 26-7.
We went into the second half, knowing the breeze would not be enough to get us home and a penalty goal to Sauce reduced the margin to 26-10 within the first five minutes. We controlled the ball and territory in the second half, but with a yellow card, Vikings were able to slow the game to deny us several attacking opportunities. A lone tryto Michael A-C in the last fiev, converted by Sauce put the final margin at 26-17. Plenty of lessons out of this one, including our impressive ability to stay in the fight.
