Round 15, last game of the regular season and an opportunity to confirm our top 2 place heading into finals. This was an important game for Royals. Top two means we have at least two opportunities to make our way into the big dance, but more than that it’s continuity of momentum. Winning is a habit we are keen to lock in.
Connal McInerney established early dominance for Royals with a try in the first 3 minutes of the game. Indeed the Blue Baggers never really dropped their intensity from that point on, scoring 5 tries in the first half and 4 in the second stanza to take the win 59-17.
The dominance this week came predominantly from two sources, the work rate of our forwards- and our loosies in particular (Rory, Bowro and Oscar wrought absolute havoc), and the organisation of Andrew Muirhead working in the back field. In simple terms Wests had only a few opportunities to put points on the board, and if they turned the ball over our back three quickly found space and took full advantage.
In two weeks time finals footy kicks off. We’ll be up against a strong Vikings team who will be playing at their home ground in front of their supporters. As much as we have two opportunities to make our way into the grand final it’d be better to go straight through. Best way we can do that is to take an early win, and what would help is to have the cheers of our supporters sounding loud from the sidelines.
Hope to see you there.
