After almost four weeks without a game, second grade were finally back on the field to take on uni. We started with good energy and control, applying early pressure that resulted in an early try to George, converted by Oscar to give us a 7-0 lead. This was followed by more field position and another try to Riley, converted by Oscar, who also added a penalty goal to make it 17-14 at the break. Two converted tries to Uni at the back end of the half gave them some momentum.
We started the second half well with Sam diving over in the corner in the early minutes. From there, uni controlled the ball well and we were left defending for long periods of time. They scored two converted tries to take the game out to 28-22. The weeks off were showing, with our timing slightly out and some simple 1-on-1 missed tackles letting us down. We did stay in the game though and when George crashed over for his second it was 28-27 with two minutes to go. On this occasion we weren’t able to close it out and went down by the single point, undefeated no longer. Points went to Zac (3), George (2) and Ben D (1).
