If last round was our best performance of the season, this week was far from it. The Owls taught us some humility this week and demonstrated the importance of taking a disciplined approach to our training, keeping our standards high, and then applying that same mindset when we take to the field each weekend. Winning is a habit we’ve grown used to, but this weekend we let ourselves down.
Despite gifting the Owls the significant portion of possession and Territory, the Royals defensive performance for the most part held up well, with only an occasional lapse in judgement allowing their opposition to cross the chalk. Rory Scott, Liam Bowron, Pedro Rolando and Jamie Bodman worked hard and kept Royals in the game.
And when we did manage to get our hands on the ball, our backline, and outside backs in particular, found space and were unlucky not to convert possession into points. Dylan McLachlan, Ben Johnston and Pedro Rolando all scored tries which Pedro subsequently converted, but when the final whistle blew Royals were 10 points behind- much to the joy of the Uni Norths crowd.
This week we’re taking on Gungahlin who will have their tails up having gotten over the top of Wests last week. And playing at home, it would be great to see you at the ground and hear the support.
This week the team are looking forward to seeing their Manager Mark Young achieve a significant milestone when he takes the field for what will be his 500th grade game in the blue and the white. You’re a magnificent clubman, an inspiration to those who play and love this game, and to top it all off you’re a genuinely nice bloke. May you continue to play on for years to come!
