Match Report – Men’s 1st Grade Round 10

By far our best performance of the year as the blue baggers showed exactly what they’re capable of. A 31-22 win this week over the Vikings at their home ground consolidates our place at the top of the table and returns the Bob Hitchcock shield to the Clubhouse at Phillip- just where it belongs.

By far our best performance of the year as the blue baggers showed exactly what they’re capable of. A 31-22 win this week over the Vikings at their home ground consolidates our place at the top of the table and returns the Bob Hitchcock shield to the Clubhouse at Phillip- just where it belongs.

Some standout defensive efforts across the Royals pack this week. Repeat efforts from Royals defenders in response to a very capable Vikings attack saw the Vikings frustrated more often than not with Ed Kennedy, Rory Scott, Liam Bowron and James Bundy all making their mark. And notable as well was Lincoln Smith who turned over the ball several times at crucial moments in the game which certainly shifted the momentum of the game.

In attack, we demonstrated a patience that had been lacking in previous matches, and opened opportunities around the edges that our backs took full advantage of. Lincoln Smith crossed the chalk twice, once having been gifted a lovely offload from Karin Amin, and the other being a pick from the back of a ruck bashing through some well set goal line defence. Allan Wratten and Rory Scott also scored, while Pedro slotted all four conversions and a penalty goal.

All in all a notably happier change room after this game. The quality of this week’s performance sets the standard we need to build on. The group is growing in confidence and the team play is really starting to shine through. Come down and watch us take on the Owls at ANU this week, the team would love to see you on the sideline wearing blue and cheering us on.
