1ST GRADE MATCH REPORT
There’s a saying that it’s better to be lucky than good, and right now our first grade side would welcome some luck. Another round and another close loss as we finished behind the Whites 18-27. From the sidelines it seems we’ve simply forgotten what it takes to seal a win, particularly through the latter stages of the game when we appeared to become a little desperate, forcing the play and not making the best choices. This week we had Max Singh putting in another strong performance, leading by example and knocking over any Whites ball runner fool enough to come within reach. Harry Quinlan was dynamic in the backline and worked well with both Will Burden and Noa Rabici. But it was our set piece that really stood out this week, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Archer Holz who played through the pain barrier and in combination with Bundy and Apenisa saw the scrum dominate throughout the game. We’re only a fraction from where we need to be and in practice it is only our failure to trust in the plans put up by our coaches, discipline (in that we need to take an extra step to get onside) and lapses in concentration which are letting us down. Nothing that’s fundamental or can’t be fixed. Let’s see what next week brings. Points this week: 3 – Max Singh 2 – Harry Quinlan 1 – Archer Holz.
