Being a knockout final this week’s game was not one for those who suffer anxiety. Wests came out hard against us getting out to an early lead that they maintained through to the sixty sixth minute, at which point Royals took advantage of their second half momentum to take a one point lead. And all was looking well as the clock wound down until Royals conceded a penalty 10 meters into Royals territory that the Wests fly half converted. With only 5 minutes remaining, Royals were behind by two and needed possession. As the clock counted down to zero Royals took on the challenge, dealing well with Wests defenders at the ruck and secured the win with a late try to James Bundy in his 100th grade game.
This week was a demonstration of the resolve and capability of this group who displayed moments of absolute brilliance across the park. From Tom Hayes’ line running to Rory Scott’s workhorse efforts, Angus Staniforth’s cover defence, Connal McInerney and Tom Iles mastery of set piece, Sione Mau’s unexpected double shift or Dylan McLachlans ability to reel in wayward passes- everyone played a part in this win and will take some confidence into next week.
Looking to next week we will come up against a Vikings side who will be seeking redemption after a tough loss last week, and hoping to make their way into the Grand Final in their clubs 50th year. We’re hoping to get over them and will need our supporter’s assistance so please come down and join us at Erindale enclosed.
Your voice from the stands is, as always, very important to the players.
