Match Report Royals Colts v Wests April 23 (Dave Bowron)

Colts make it 3 from 3 but improvements needed!
colts 4

Win number three on the trot from the mighty Colts, downing Wests 22-10 at their home ground. We opened the scoring with a fantastic team try on the back of a couple of patient phases, accurate ball movement and strong work at the ruck to keep possession. A textbook lineout and driving maul saw Cashy get over the line untouched in the 11th minute.

It was a disappointing win unfortunately. The team didn’t bring the same energy they have in the first two games resulting in an ugly win that we made harder than it should have been. The lads were sloppy with their shape and when they did find it at times, there were often players missing. We defended well in slippery conditions but let ourselves down with ill discipline and failing
to adjust our game to the ref’s interpretations. Piggyback penalties again giving away field position and possession to Wests resulting in points. Must fix this element of the game to remain competitive.

Chicko again delivered a strong game both with ball in hand and on the boot to earn himself the MVP.

Congratulations Colties, a win’s a win, we’ll take it with both hands; but… plenty of room for improvement.
