Royals 10s v Uni Norths 10s

On a bright autumnal morning on the grounds of one of Australia’s most illustrious Universities Royals W10s kicked off against Uni Norths.

As in all great pedagogical institutions there was plenty to be learned and, in the end, a stern examination.

Royals eventually lost out to an excellent Uni Norths side but it is what Royals Women’s 10s will learn and take away from this encounter that will provide encouragement in the future.

Rugby in Canberra needs development leagues and competitions and the W10s league must be supported by all stakeholders.  I saw many women out there at the weekend who were playing in their 1st or second game of rugby.  They did themselves, and the game proud.  There were also women re-connecting with the game; both Christine Murray and Jackie Vandenbergh returning to the game after a long hiatus.  “Last time we played together Kylie was still doing the Locamotion” joked a viably beaming Murray.
