Royals Women’s 7s win the Capital 7s tournament

On a hot day in Queanbeyan Canberra Royals Women’s 7s walked off the field having lost their final game.  In doing so, they believed they had blown their chances of winning the Capital 7s tournament.

In a bizarre twist the tournament organisers had miscalculated some of the results and subsequently realised that Royals had, in fact, won.

Player of the tournaemnt and lead try scorer we Bianca Francis commented, “We were so disappointed after our final game and decided to have a beer together to cheer the mood.  Waking up the next day I was told that we actually won the tournament… We’ve lost the opportunity to enjoy the mooment on the day but we will celebrate this victory very soon and hopefully take that momentum in to the 10s and 15s season this year.”

Brumbies Community Rugby will make the trophy and medal presentation this week at Royals training ground in Evatt.

Royals Men’s 7s finished a respectable mid table and will hope to improve on this when both they and Royals Women travel to Cowra for the Twilight 10s on the 4th March
