A last round playoff for second place heading into the finals set the scene- we unfortunately just couldn’t convert our chances and stay with the Eagles through to the end of the game. A final score of 19-50 Eagles way probably doesn’t do justice to the effort put in by the bluebags, but does show the pressure placed on us by a physical and we’ll drilled Gungahlin outfit.
In the wash up we can acknowledge the defensive battle waged by our forward pack who held up well to the barrage sent our way, with a special mention to Spencer Scott who substituted on very early in the first half for an injured Matt Galvin. Spencer suitably demonstrated capability at the first grade level and is marked as a future prospect at this level. From our backline Angus Staniforth again found his way over the tryline in attack, and covered providing support to Dylan McLachlan who put in a mammoth defensive effort all game long.
First round of finals sees us up against the Lions playing the Sunday Session against a Wests outfit that have challenged us each of the three times we’ve faced off this season. Royals are ready for finals rugby, and are confident in the progression and capabilities they’ve shown this season.
