A third meeting with Uni for the year and a chance for second grade to get back in the winners circle on a lovely day for rugby. Against a top four team we knew we had to start well and both teams started with a clear intent to run the ball. We controlled the ball well in the early exchanges with some direct running. A try to Allan was the result after only three minutes, converted by Sauce 7-0. The next ten minutes was a bit of an arm wrestle and a simple mistake in defence let uni in 7-5. Uni had the bulk of position and went over again for a 12-7 lead with ten to go in the half. On the stroke of half-time, Oscar went over off the back of a good run from Sam R to give us a 14-12 lead.
Uni were first to score in the second half with a penalty goal within the first minute to go up 15-14, that was their only score until the last minute of the half. A well worked set play, some good hands from the backs saw Judd cross to give us a 19-15 lead with half an hour to go. We crossed again with 15 minutes to go, off some good work from the forwards from a rolling maul, with Pearso crossing to make it 24-15. Uni scored on the bell to close the gap to 24-22, but by then we had the game wrapped up. Still some work to do over the next few weeks, noting we were good in attack when we were straight. Points went to Sam R (3), Connor S (2) and Ben D (1).
